"the Gospels are pervaded with the spirit of Socialism and Communism."
This article quotes from an 1890 book by Reverend Professor William Graham of Queen's College Belfast.
“Our program necessarily includes the propaganda of atheism” - Lenin
"He was gone, leaving Winston holding the scrap of paper, which this time there was no need to conceal. Nevertheless he carefully memorized what was written on it, and some hours later dropped it into the memory hole along with a mass of other papers." - 1984 by George Orwell, chapter 14
The churches' christology is indeed a pauline one which in many aspects contradicts teaching of the messianic nazarene rabbi. BTW the four canonical gospels contain two sermons on the mount. Luke's version is more extreme (woo the rich, they who laugh now, they will be poor and cry, bless the poor and they who cry now they will be rich and laugh in the kingdom). At the same time there is no criticism of slavery.
ReplyDeleteThe attitude to authority is one of non-violent resistance (Gandhi loved this sermon) that has among others sceptic influences. Around the year 30 AD he prophesied that within one generation the temple and 'holy city' would be completely destroyed as a result of violent rebelling the romans. This prayer might become more popular in times to come: "Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors."
